Beachy Head and lighthouse graphic screen print
Personal project developing skills around graphic illustration in a style which mimics screen printing. This is my third piece, all focused on some local landmarks. I'm pleased with how it's all coming along.
Beachy Head and its guardian the Beachy Head Lighthouse in East Sussex combine for one of the South Coast of England's most revered sights. The latter lends scale to its giant neighbour.
The infamous cliff itself is the sudden end of the South Downs which begin in Hampshire and meet the sea some 100 miles later at Eastbourne.
My favourite view is not from the top, but from a lower point near Belle Toute lighthouse, where Beachy Head looms over the viewer, who is still some distance above sea water. Sometimes the mist rolls in turning the sea white and convincing awestruck watchers the cliff is actually endless.
My graphic screen print is set in late afternoon as the summer sun casts long horizontal shadows across the face of the cliff, and a family watch on in ceaseless wonder.
